History of the StuG III Ausf. G

The StuG III Ausf. G was the most widely produced variant of the German Sturmgeschütz III assault gun during World War II. The vehicle was equipped with a long-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 gun, which was effective against both enemy infantry and tanks. Thanks to its low profile and robust armor, the StuG III was difficult to spot on the battlefield and was frequently utilized for defensive operations and ambush tactics.

Vehicles of this type fought on all major fronts of the war. They participated in - among others - the Battle of Kursk, combat operations in Ukraine and on the Eastern Front, the Italian Campaign, the Battle of Normandy, as well as the Ardennes Offensive and the Defense of Berlin in 1945.

The StuG III was highly regarded for its simple design, reliability, and high combat effectiveness. Approximately 7,700 units of this variant were produced, making the StuG III Ausf. G one of the most significant German armored vehicles of World War II.
